What’s Within the FT EMA

Within our FT EMA, as with all our products, is a suite of high-quality and precision direct drives, built and tested to the highest aerospace standards. The single LRU (line replaceable unit) features a patented and copyrighted design mechanism, engineered to meet the rigorous demands of the next generation of low-impact, environmentally friendly electric aircraft.

 

Featuring the following:

Motor

The pre-optimization of electric motor configurations allows for customer performance requirements to be accommodated within the design envelope. This results in a standardized COTS design solution for FT EMA, leading to:

  • Shorted re-design lead-time for customer requirements
  • Optimised solution and high-performance characteristics
  • Known performance characteristics (increased confidence)
  • Low mass (optimised)
  • Design and build to aviation standards and quality
  • Continues operation / stall

 

Sensors

Quadplex limit switches sensors at both end of stroke, with mechanical backup configuration within the FT EMA (patented end stop management system)

 

LVDT

Quadplex Linear Variable Differential Transducer (LVDT) sensor configuration within the FT EMA

 

Power Screw

Customed designed power screw thread surface coating configuration within the FT EMA

Giving rise to:

  • High performance
  • Higher efficiency
  • No back-drive capability
  • No load creeping
  • Lubricated for life
  • Built in Patented Power screw anti-rotation device
  • Built in Patented Anti-backlash device

 

Sealing

Customed designed environmentally sealed  configuration within the FT EMA

Giving rise to:

  • Tolerant up to 400 Bar external environmental pressure
  • Able to be submerged and operate continually in seawater (submerged)
  • Built in actuator shaft scraper and radial load shaft support bush bearings
  • V&V to RTCA DO-160

EMA Controller

Patented and customed designed Quadraplex Actuator Controller configuration within the FT EMA

Giving rise to:

  • Built in quadraplex controller with firmware with anti-tampering & encryption - Light weight option
  • Power surge protection
  • Separate Controller unit is available
  • Fault and diagnostics reporting
  • Health and component life monitoring reporting
